Design-driven production studio Vitamin has expanded its roster with the addition of associate creative director Sam Gierasimczuk. Gierasimczuk, whose background includes work as a designer, animator and technical director, will work with Vitamin creative director Danny DelPurgatorio in overseeing the studio’s projects. Gierasimczuk will assume a hands-on role in design and production as well as supervising the work of other members of the creative team.

“Vitamin’s model has always been that collaboration, both internal and external, is the key to our success,” said DelPurgatorio. “Sam is such a creative individual, we’re really excited to see how he can help us to push our boundaries.”

“We have been fans of Sam’s work for a long time and are thrilled to have this opportunity to bring him on board,” said Vitamin senior producer Larissa Shames. “Sam is a really talented designer with the technical skills to back it up. He’s a great addition to the team.”

Gierasimczuk arrives from the design boutique Leviathan where he served as creative director. His work there included a number of innovative projects involving projection mapping, among them an acclaimed installation for the band Amon Tobin and its Isam Tour. He also completed design and animation projects for Scion, Intel, Callaway Golf and Kelly Blue Book.

Previously, he served three years as associate creative director with Lift Motion Design. A graduate of Columbia College, Chicago, Gierasimczuk began his career with the information design firm Zagnoli McEvoy Foley.

“I am very impressed with the variety of work that Vitamin attracts,” he said. “I look forward to the opportunity to take part in such a wide gamut of projects. My interests range from film titles and branding packages to music videos and commercials, so it’ll be fun to play in this world with Vitamin.”

Vicon Introduces Mobile Mocap at SIGGRAPH

Motion capture systems developer Vicon is previewing a futuristic new “Mobile Mocap” technology at SIGGRAPH 2011 in Vancouver. Moving mocap out of the lab and into the field, Vicon's Mobile Mocap system taps several new technologies, many years in the making. At the heart of Mobile Mocap is a very small lipstick-sized camera that enables less obtrusive, more accurate facial animation data. The new cameras capture 720p (1280X720) footage at 60 frames per second. In addition, a powerful processing unit synchronizes, stores, and wirelessly transmits the data, all in a tiny wearable design.
