A BTL weblog.
If, of course, that particular L.A. strike comes to pass. And not just SAG, but the entire L.A. County of Labor, which voted today to “mobilize for demonstrations, boycotts and food drives to aid striking grocery workers,” should talks between Ralph’s, Vons, and Albertsons, and their employees, implode they way they did three years ago.
No word on how the grocers might reciprocate if SAG walks out a few months down the road: No movie ticket purchases? No DVD rentals?
Well, one strike at a time!

1Great. If only SAG spent more time supporting it own members.

4as having worked as a checker through the last strike-let me tell you what SAG says and does are two different thing, plenty of “oh jeez I need stuff and I have to shop here sorry” passing by striking grocery workers. Not just SAG, all industry workers-even crafties came in to the store where I worked with picketing strikers-
their “heartfelt trumpeting” is all show,
The grocery union is all but decimated from the last strike anyway.

5That’s the question about “union solidarity,” annon-y-mouse… Last time during the grocers’ strike, Teamsters still drove supplies to the grocery stores, only refusing to cross picket lines there. All it meant was that managers/scabs came out to haul in items from the curb, rather than the loading docks.
If the Teamsters had been in all the way, leaving grocery supplies sitting in the warehouses, and the shelves of Ralph’s, etc., empty, the thing would’ve been over in a week, and the union would’ve won.
We’ll see what happens this time out…
