WGA & DGA: Tersely discussing new media tactics together; LA Councilman has hearings
17 Dec

The following no-frills statement was issued by both the WGA and DGA this afternoon:
GUILDS WILL MEET TO DISCUSS NEW MEDIA
LOS ANGELES - The Directors Guild of America and the Writers Guild of America will meet shortly to discuss new media, including what the DGA has developed from its research and studies.
Neither the WGA nor the DGA will have any further comment on the meeting or any of the information shared in the meeting.
Thus the WGA in “no fools they” mode get a hand in discussing that which the directors will inevitably settle for, come the new year.
Meanwhile, on the civic politics side of things, LA City Council rep Herb Wesson - whose district covers downtown/Koreatown areas, as opposed to, say, the Westside– is calling hearings about the strike, and its impact, tomorrow, Wed. the 19th, in front of the the Housing, Community and Economic Development Committee.
If you’d care to email in comments–or go there in person –there is much helpful information on the United Hollywood website…

1Herb Wesson’s precinct did cover the Westside or at least Culver City (Sonytown) when he was an assemblyman in the State Assembly and was Speaker for a term. He’s a smart man, personable and not at all ignorant about the industry. He was termed out by the assembly, not voted out so you shouldn’t put it against him that his current city council district is not industry central. He’s got more clout than the average city council member that no one’s ever heard of because of his prior experience.

2Very good points about Wesson’s assembly years, BP! I hope I didn’t infer Wesson was somehow not capable simply because his current council district isn’t production “ground zero” in L.A.
His interest, in fact, reveals that the entire town has a stake in seeing this settled quickly, and fairly.
